About Sheriff Shannon Dicus

San Bernardino County’s 36th Sheriff

Sheriff Shannon Dicus serves as the Sheriff-Coroner of San Bernardino County, leading one of the largest law enforcement organizations in the United States and protecting a jurisdiction spanning more than 20,000 square miles. A veteran of the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division, Sheriff Dicus brings a mission-focused leadership style grounded in listening, decisive problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to doing what is right for the people of San Bernardino County.

Since taking office in 2021, Sheriff Dicus has led aggressive enforcement operations that have removed hundreds of pounds of fentanyl and thousands of illicit firearms from San Bernardino County communities. Through coordinated, intelligence-driven initiatives such as Operation Consequences and Operation Hammer Strike, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has also rescued dozens of human trafficking victims and dismantled criminal networks preying on vulnerable individuals.

These operations reflect a proactive strategy focused on disrupting organized crime, targeting repeat offenders, and protecting families from the devastating impacts of illicit drugs and exploitation.

In addition to enforcement, Sheriff Dicus has been a consistent advocate for expanding countywide capacity for substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment facilities. He has made clear that without adequate treatment infrastructure, deputies are forced to cycle the same individuals through the jail system. By pushing for alternatives to incarceration for appropriate offenders, he is working to reduce recidivism while protecting public safety and our way of life.

Under his leadership, the department deployed countywide body-worn cameras to reinforce transparency and accountability, advanced intelligence-led and data-driven policing capabilities, and strengthened regional and federal partnerships to ensure a unified and coordinated public safety strategy

Sheriff Dicus continues to lead with discipline and resolve, focused on protecting families, holding criminals accountable, and strengthening the systems that keep communities safe. His commitment to service, transparency, and operational excellence ensures San Bernardino County remains prepared to meet today’s challenges and tomorrow’s threats.
